If you do not trust the yogurt that is sold in the supermarkets because you do not trust its authenticity, you can try your hand at making raw yogurt at home. The ingredients you would require are:- 42 fl oz raw milk, a tablespoon of yogurt from the previous batch or 3 tablespoons of whey, 2.5 teaspoons gelatin when using in bulk. First you need to add the milk and gelatin in a saucepan and then gently heat it until the temperature of the milk reaches 110 degrees.
If the temperature exceeds 110 degrees, the milk would begin pasteurizing and hence the yogurt would not remain raw anymore. The milk should be stirred completely so that no lumps remain in the milk. Next add the whey or the yogurt from the previous batch. After this, poured the mixture in a glass jar with a yogurt maker. Then cover the mixture with lids of the yoghurt maker and let it heat for 24 hours. Next, you refrigerate it, so that it can chill and thicken up. When the yogurt is set and chilled, it is all ready to be savored.
A cautionary word
While it is all good to talk about the benefits of having yogurt, you should pay some attention to what the vegans have to say about raw yogurt. Vegans believe that dairy products including yogurt are dangerous because they lead to the formation of mucus and create severe health hazards like bone loss and even have a correlation to cancer. Those who are sensitive to dairy products and are lactose intolerant are prone to developing mucus from the consumption of yogurt
However if you are an individual who is not sensitive to dairy products you can very well savor on raw yogurt once or twice in a week without worrying about health hazards. In fact as we stated earlier, adding a bit of yogurt to your diet is likely to improve the overall condition of your health.
